“Visioning for Impact” Workshop Summary

A Summary of BEACON Board of Directors discussion of future BEACON programs, projects and activities can be found below. At its July 2024 Board meeting, Board members participated in a facilitated discussion of future BEACON programs, projects, and activities, led by Stacy Miller of Stacy Miller Public Affairs (SMPA). Ms. Miller prepared the summary below and joined the Board at its September 2024 Board meeting to review the most important topics summarized.
BEACON Science Research Agenda
In December 2021 the BEACON Science Advisory Committee (SAC) issued a Science Research Agenda to help BEACON executive and science staff prioritize research activities. BEACON staff have employed the Research Agenda to guide its on-going research work and to support research grant requests. BEACON has successfully partnered on multiple research projects. BEACON staff continue to implement multiple research projects to inform its Regional Sediment Management and Climate and Sea Level Rise (SLR) Adaptation programs and projects. BEACON staff hope to complete an Update to Science Research Agenda during 2025.
BEACON Manager-Scientist Summit November 28, 2023
The 2023 BEACON Manager-Scientist Summit was held in Ventura this past November. This attached Summit Summary is an important record of the presentations, discussion, input, and formal exchange during the full day summit program. The summit was a major opportunity to identify optics, topics, issues and activities to be considered as BEACON staff and SAC prepare an update to its Science Research Agenda.
A draft Research Agenda Update will be prepared in the coming few months with opportunity for review and comment by SAC members, agency managers and staff, and interested stakeholders before being presented for approval at the Spring 2024 SAC Meeting. The Update will include a revised two-year implementation plan for 2024-2026 identifying programmatic activities proposed to be undertaken and/or completed, including any new proposed initiatives.
