Adam Young, PhD, from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, presented the results of current research on Coastal Cliff landslide hazards in Southern California. Coastal landslides threaten public resources, coastal infrastructure, and life safety along California’s coast, including in our local region. Rising sea levels, intensifying coastal storm events, and growing beach visitation will intensify the risks. Understanding the processes and timing of coastal landslides is critical for improved coastal management and hazard mitigation.
The program has many lessons learned for BEACON region, and may be a useful additional to regional monitoring initiatives. BEACON Board and staff are interested in sharing this research with local officials and agency staff.
